88th Annual Memorial Day Commemoration

Mountain View Cemetery honors all veterans at the 88th Annual Memorial Day Commemoration, “United in Remembrance.”

This year’s Memorial Day ceremony will be held on Monday, May 25th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the second fountain on the Main Avenue of the cemetery.

The keynote speaker will be Captain Keith J. Turro. He is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of Integrated Support Command Alameda, CA.

The traditional placing of the wreath and the 21 gun-salute will be followed by a dove release.  Additional activities and participants include the Piedmont Highlanders Drum & Pipe Trio, Presentation of Colors-Boy Scouts Piedmont Troop 6, Salute to the Fallen, Amy Puccinelli, soloist, and the David Hardiman Trio.  The event is hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Piedmont Post 514, American Legion Rizal Post 598, and Mountain View Cemetery Association.

Complimentary refreshments will follow the ceremony.  Docent Dennis Evanosky will lead a guided tour of the refurbished Civil War plot and other areas of notables that are buried in the cemetery. Join us in remembering our veterans on this special day!
